Issues with existing thread reply mode

How to I exit reply mode? I find it difficult to go back to my messages after replying individually to a specific thread. After the message is sent I’m stuck on that individual reply thread and can’t get to the main conversation! Why does it have to be this way? Replies should be done in the main conversation where one can follow up and reply again if need be. This is crazy. I hate to say this but perhaps Apple can study the ease of use and many features of WhatsApp.

You do not have to use that Reply mode. That is provided mostly for group messages, where you could reply to an individual response in the thread instead of just typing a message. When you select that Reply after tapping and getting Tapback, after you send that reply, just tap outside of that in blank space in the message and it will return you to the regular message.
