AirPods Pro Noise Cancellation not working

So every time I try to toggle on noise cancellation, it shows me a message that “ place both airpods in your ears to use noise cancellation”

I have tried to forget the AirPods on my iPad and reconnect them again, but that doesn’t seem to work either.

The ear test doesn’t work either.

I was wondering if anyone can help with this issue?
