Locked out of my MacBook Air

Hi, I finally got a new iPhone and when I did I changed my Apple password. I foolishly then changed the password on my MacBook Air and then forgot the new password. I tried the methods shown on YouTube to fix it but mistakenly kept putting in my new Apple password when prompted for my Apple ID. Kept getting a message that ID could not be found. When I finally figured out that my Apple ID is my email address I had tried so many times to get in that I was completely locked out. I can't even get the utility notice the YouTubers talk about. I really do need a new computer but am not sure if I there is any way to transfer the data from my locked out computer to the new one. Am I out of luck or is there some way to save my situation? Thank you for any help you can give!

Two Things...

A. Troubleshooting a Locked Mac:

Use the Login Screen:

Reset it using the login screen. You'd go through your Apple ID to perform this. Find out more here: If you Forgot your Mac Login Password - Apple Support

B. Changing the Password:

Contact Apple Support:

Ask the Apple Rep to modify it over the phone. If permitted to do so, then inform to modify the Phone Number associated to your Apple Account, to what it should be. Important: Perform a Trial & Error login session with the Apple Rep prior to ending the phone call.
