I am reformatting the hard drive of my mid-2008 iMac running High Sierra and I am offered 3 options for Scheme:

GUID Partition Map, Master Boot Record or Apple Partition Map

which do I choose?

Erasing a SSD - which Scheme? I’ve just installed a new SSD in my 2012 MacBook Pro and I’m erasing the disk. I’ve named it, selected the format and now it’s asking me so select a scheme - “GUID partition map” “Master Boot Record” or “Apple Partition Map”. Can anyone tell me which option I should pick?

cloning my hard drive chose wrong partition format I'm cloning my wife's hard drive to upgrade her to a bigger solid state drive. When I went to format the drive, I foolishly chose 'Apple partition map' as the partition choice, rather than GUID. Now I know that I need it to be GUID in order for it to work. Is there any way to change the partitioning back, or have I just wasted an expensive new drive? If there is a way, could someone please walk me through it? I've tried and failed. Thanks.

Wiping 2 internal drives in a Mac Pro I have a late 2010 Mac Pro with 1 - 1T SSD drive and 2 - HDs. The SSD is the startup drive. I want to wipe securely the 2 - HDs and take the SSD out before giving to charity. I tried to use the Disk Utility within the SSD and wipe the 2 - HDs but all the data still seems to be there!?? What's the most effective (time with security) way to wipe the 2 - HDs and install the OS on at least 1 - HD? Thank you!

GUID only. Of course, a thirteen-year old hard drive may be hovering at death's door by now…

GUID Partition Map / Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

Edit: just saw your update. For High Sierra use GUID Partition Map / APFS

I have two volumes on my hard disk now. How do I consolidate them back to one? One volume says “this volume is in use” and the other volume says “ you cannot remove the first volume on the disk.

That image looks correct for a Mid 2008 year model iMac.

It shows your Internal drive and a Macintosh HD startup volume.
