Mac book not in iMac finder sidebar

I recently purchased a MacBook Air, I can find my iPhone and iPad in the sidebar of finder on my iMac but the MacBook is not showing, I have turned the sharing on, and connected by cable. Any help would be appreciated.

What is it you are wanting to do. Transfer files to the new MacBook Air? You can do file sharing ether by ethernet cable or by network. Here s the way by ethernet.Use Ethernet to connect two Mac computers - Apple Support (BN) Here is by network. Connect your Mac to shared computers and servers - Apple Support (TM) or if you are trying to move content from the iMac to your New MacBook Air, you could use Migration Assistant.Move your content to a new Mac - Apple Support
