Songs on my phone.

OK. I give up.

Yesterday I was wondering why the songs I see on my iPhone are duplicated. Yep. Two of every one of 2370 songs (except for a few) were duplicated. I checked the iPhone 12 Pro page in iTunes that has the Sync instructions. The one and ONLY playlist that I have was checked.

I unchecked that box and synced without any songs selected. The Sync Mode says there are still 16 songs on my iPhone and yet, when I look army iPhone, I'm back to my original playlist without the duplicates. Yep. I still have 2370 songs showing on my phone. And, they all play.

I tried looking for the 16 songs that remain (showing on the iTunes app) and I can't figure out what is causing those songs to stay in the app. Note: I still have 2370 songs on the iPhone.

I tried to create a new Playlist and just put in one song to see if I could overwrite the old Playlist with just one song. For some reason, I can't create a new Playlist now.

The Help button doesn't.

Sync Music (iTunes) page: I made sure all of the Artists on the were unchecked. Genres were all unchecked. There are 16 songs in Manually Added. At least I found the 16 songs.

So, here are my questions:

  1. IF I sync my phone after removing any checked songs, why doesn't it remove the songs from my phone?
  2. What is Manually Added Songs?
  3. I see it says 'Add songs by dragging them from your Library to your phone.' I've never done that. How do/did they get there?
  4. Why can't I create a new Playlist?
  5. If I delete one of the Manually Added Songs, does that song stay in the Library?
  6. Why are Manually added songs different from songs in a Playlist?
  7. If I DID drag a song to a Playlist and then uncheck that Playlist, why does that song stay on my phone?

It seems as though the Playlist doesn't have any affect on what songs are in my phone.

Manually added songs are like another selection method, playlists, artist, albums, genres, songs.

See this post on erratic syncing. Nuke & pave may be the way to go, but you can start by just trying to clear the music storage on the device. May help to sign out of the iTunes Store when doing the initial load.
