iCloud Desktop not showing up on my new MacBook Air M1 desktop

I just got my new MacBook Air. I did a fresh start instead of migrating everything over. I am perplexed as to why my iCloud Drive desktop file has all my desktop files, BUT my MacBook Air desktop is blank. The only thing on the desktop is the hard drive icon. I have gone to Apple ID/Icloud/options and clicked on the Desktop and Documents option, but nothing happens. I click on that box and then click "Done", and then when I go back to it, it is not ticked.

Hey Ruaha,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you have migrated your files to your new MacBook Air but the files only appear in the iCloud Drive. Right?

It looks like you recently reviewed Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive which is a great starting point. What happens when you try to open one of the files in iCloud Drive on your Mac? Will it open or do you get an error message? From System Preferences > Apple ID, is Optimize Mac Storage selected? If so, that might be why your files aren't appearing on your desktop.

You may also find the information from Access and manage your files in iCloud Drive helpful.

Have a great day!
