No Activity notifications through AirPods 2.

When playing Spotify and other media whilst using the Activity app, eg; running, I am unable to hear any notifications, such as miles achieved. I purchased airpods2 last Sept and the notifications worked for a couple of runs but not when playing radio stations via the phones 4G but has not worked since @Oct 2021.

I have all items on the latest firmware and have disconnected and reconnected, changed settings a number of times and checked settings. The notifications come via the watch but not my AirPods. Is this a iPhone, Apple Watch or AirPods problem. Very frustrating.
