delete kid from family

We want to close a family account and there's a child's account on it, and it looks like the only option we have is to give them to another family. What information are we missing here?

I'm assuming that this child is under 13 years of age. If so, as you noted, they cannot be removed from the current family group that they are part of. The only options Apple provides are:

Move them to another family group.
Delete their Apple ID account. Ref: Learn how to request the deletion of your child's Apple ID
Wait until they turn 13 to remove them.
