Apple TV remote not pairing

My remote lost connection and after a recharge I noticed the dictation and Siri no longer worked - could no longer 'hear' me.

After resetting TV, resetting the remote, power cycling TV it began prompting for me to bring closer to pair and keeps doing so.

I've had it sat on top of the box for quite a while but no success. The prompts continue and dictation fails

I've also selected the option to Forget the Device and repair but to no avail

TV up to date. I assume the remote is updated with TV
