Problems importing photos from SD card to IOS 15

I am trying to import photos from an SD card into my iPad on IOS 15. When I plug my adapter in, nothing happens. I can plug the same adapter into a different older iPad (older - IOS 12) and the adapter and SD card work. I have tried 2 adapters, 2 different SD cards and even rebooted the iPad in question. Something seems to have changed where I cannot import SD cards using an adapter anymore into my IOS 15 iPad. Anyone else seeing this?

With introduction of iPadOS the import photos prompt doesn’t now occur. Instead, you should be able to simply import using the native Files App.
