My watch face doesn’t display the clock unless I tap the face.

If you are sure you do have Always On turned on on the watch (or in the Apple Watch App on iPhone), from the bottom of the watch screen slide up to open Control Center. See if Theater Mode has been enabled and if it has, tap it to turn it off.

Check to see if you have either of these turned on and turn them off;
