I want Music to access my iTunes library on an external drive.

I have all my iTunes music on an external drive. (It took up too much space on the computer and so I've had it on an external drive for several years now.) I bought a new MacBook Pro, which uses the Music app (not iTunes, though it seems to be iTunes' successor). How do I get the Music app to access my iTunes library, but keep the library on an external drive?

When I use "Files" to choose the location, I receive this question: "Would you like to move and rename the files in your new Media folder to match the “Keep Media folder organized” preference?"

This confuses me. I don't think I want to move and rename the files. I merely want to access them. I want them to stay on the external drive. And I want to access them. That's all.

I doubt I'm the only person with this problem. But I can't find a solution.

I have a MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021) and amusing Monterey (version 12.1).
