Annoying "Airpods connected" notification every time I unlock my phone

This seems like a very old issue (e.g. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251803959), and even though many reported new iOS is supposed to fix it, I'm still having it. 1/2 of the times I unlock my phone I get a notification "Airpods connected". I understand I can fix this issue by setting "Connect to this iPhone" to "when last connected to this iPhone" but this would kill the automatic switching functionality, which is like using airpods with an Android phone. And I can't even turn off the notification.

Has anyone found a solution to this?

Setting this Up Anew:

If you wanted to, you could set it up anew, as if you were to sell it. All settings would be to default, and you would log in. From there, re-enable iCloud, and download the same apps, and enable items***.  Go Here: What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, or Trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Important:

Prior to the reset, take note of what apps are installed, and, to avoid data loss, be certain all is enabled in iCloud that should be.

***Enabling Items in iCloud Settings:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: your name (top item)
  3. Tap: iCloud
  4. Tap: [items] (so that they are green)
