how do you change settings in iPad to recognize hdmi cable?

There are no specific settings for HDMI. Assuming that you have an appropriate adapter for your iPad - and you are using a compatible HDMI 2.0 (or later) cable, you should be able to output audio/video from your iPad to an HDMI connected device.


You can control the output from the iPad Control Centre; you can expose the Control Centre by swiping downwards from the top-right of the screen.


Note that some Apps may restrict output of HD content over HDMI. Similarly, your HDMI Adapter and connected TV/Monitor may need to support HDCP 2.0 to display copyright protected content. Not all HDMI Adapters support HDCP.
