Why did they make it possible for the other person to know when you mute/unmute them. They can hear that sound. What a stupid update! Is there any way to fix this mistake? I would hope that this is a mistake and most certainly not done purposely.

The OP is referring to while in a phone call and you tap on the button to mute the microphone on the call. It causes a beep noise that both the caller and the receiver can hear. There is a very long thread about this as well. The fact is that there are a number of people that are extremely upset about this and want Apple to change it. However, unlike you and I they have not read the Terms of Use here that state that Apple does not participate in these forums, and that you and I are just users. The only way for Apple to know they are upset and want to see a change is to use the feedback link. Feedback - iPhone - Apple Apple reads all of the feedback but does not personally respond. Maybe they will change it, but for now, there is no setting you can change to address the issue.

Thanks ChrisJ4203. I still don't know how someone can mute the other person on a phone call. I could believe Face Time, Skype, Zoom, Teams.
Surely on a phone call you can only mute your own mic. Is why it made no sense.

I can’t make it any clearer than my previous statement. Since the update, when I mute/unmute a person they know that this is occurring because they will hear the alert sound. Everyone can make a mistake, so to say that Apple doesn’t make mistakes is hilarious.

Correct, you can only mute your mike, however the issue is that muting your mike makes a noice that both people can hear. The people complaining do not feel the person being talked to should be able to be made aware that you have muted your mike, like it will upset them or something. I'm not totally sure.
Apple never make mistakes, what a preposterous suggestion.
