Apple music sync

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! It looks like you're having an issue since renewing your Apple Music subscription after it expired, and we'd like to do what we can to help.

First, have you restarted your iPhone since noticing this happening? If not, go ahead and do that, as a restart can resolve unexpected issues.

Next, is Sync Library enabled on both of your devices? This feature is what syncs your music between devices, and might need to be enabled again.

Thanks for the reply and trying those steps.

It sounds like the previously downloaded music from the Apple Music catalog was removed when the subscription expired. This is expected, as the Apple Music catalog data is only available while a subscription is active, as shown here:

How to cancel a subscription from Apple

Scroll down to the section titled "About canceling subscriptions from Apple".

After you re-add music from the catalog, you can recreate your removed playlists.

If you're adding music as shown in this article, Add and download music from Apple Music

but you're not showing that music added to your Apple Music app in the Library tab, you'll want to contact Apple Support.
