As Spotlight is not working at all on my iMac with Monterey 12.2
I tried to rebuild the index by adding and removing Documents Folder in the Spotlight preferences but I get a Privacy Error Unknown.
I've tried to rebuild the index in any way I know....
For me it's a huge problem because I use Hazel to manage daily files routine and Hazel uses Spotlight engine.

Try booting to Safe Mode. That boot up takes minutes and clears caches and other things that may resolve your problem.

Do you get this error in Safe Mode?
A lot of times just boot to Safe Mode followed by normal boot resolves problems.

Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and run First Aid on all available boot volumes. Then reboot normally.
If that doesn't help boot again into Recovery volume and reinstall the system.
Try again to rebuild the Spotlight index for the internal drove and any other drive you're having problems with.
Thank you for your reply. The list in System Preferences>Spotlight>Privacy is empty and can't be changed (I get a Unknown Privacy Error).
In safe-mode I can add or remove folders in System Preferences>Spotlight>Privacy but as soon as I reboot my computer in normal-mode comes back unchangeable.
With this process I got the index to rebuild but sadly afterward, Spotlight still wouldn't work.

I changed the built-it drive and now I have a SSD drive installed
