Voice garbled using iPhone 11 and Uconnect

iPhone issue


I have seen this very problem being asked about but no answer. Person was going to take iPhone to apple store. Before I do the same, I’ll ask again. 


I have a new iPhone 11. When I pair phone to my Jeep Grand Cherokee, my voice is badly garbled to anyone I call. Their voice sounds fine. Other paired phones to same car come through perfectly fine. It’s not the Uconnect system but some issue with my iPhone 11. I have deleted the pairing and re-paired phone. Same issue. I have updated software to iOS 15.3. Same issue. 

If anyone else has resolved this issue, please let me know how.

For others having this issue, let me share what I have found out. Might save you some time.


I contacted Apple support and after an hour with different levels of support, I believe the issue is Uconnect software. Everything is pointing to needing an update to my GMC Uconnect device in my Jeep. You can go to their website, input your vin number and check if you have the latest software. https://www.driveuconnect.com/support/software-update.html

In my case, I have an older Jeep (2007) and doesn’t look like it can be updated. Later models can be. By your dealer or if you have a USB port, there are YouTube vids showing how.

I am not 100% certain this is the problem but it is looking like it could be. I am down to finding someone else with an iPhone 11 ( or possibly later ) and pairing to my Jeep. If the same issue happens, that will probably confirm.

if I find out there is another answer or confirm this is definitely the issue, I’ll post here.

After reviewing your post, it seems like there is trouble with others not being able to hear you well when you connect the iPhone to the car. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting to solve this issue. Even though there is a chance that you've tried these steps already, we would recommend you follow every step and let us know if the issue persists.


Are others able to hear you when you do not connect the iPhone to the car?

Is there trouble if you connect the iPhone to another car?

Does this happen to all contacts?

Yes, iPhone works great when not connected to Uconnect.


Is there trouble if you connect the iPhone to another car?

We only have one car with Uconnect so I do not know. 


Does this happen to all contacts?

Yes, the voice is garbled to anyone being called or calls the iPhone when paired with cars Uconnect. 

our other iPhones ( an 8 and a 6 ) work just fine when they are paired. 


Very frustrating and unsafe not being able to use the hands free operation. 


Apple should be aware of this issue since I’m reading others have the same issue. Unless Support has a fix, my options are to see if Verizon or Apple will exchange this iPhone 11 with another new one and see if the new iPhone has the same issue. Since the iPhone is only just a little over a month old will either place replace it and be able to check if this is a sporadic issue with only some iPhone 11’s?
