Where is serial number on receipt?

I had purchased my iPad Air from Amazon. It did not have any serial number or MEID on the receipt from Amazon. When I looked at the receipts from my direct purchase from online apple store, these receipts did not have serial number either. Can someone direct me to where I can find serial number on receipts from apple? I feel I might not. be looking in the right place.
