Can I mirror macbook pro to smart tv?
I have a 2011 MBP running High Sierra 10.13.6. Can I mirror it to an Airplay-capable Smart TV?

I have a 2011 MBP running High Sierra 10.13.6. Can I mirror it to an Airplay-capable Smart TV?

No. The AirPlay 2 capabilities of your Smart Tv are not compatible with the Airplay capabilities of High Sierra.
At least, it did not work for me from a 2011 Mac mini with High Sierra. The Tv simply does not show up in the Airplay menu. The Apple TV connected to it does.
The only other option would be to connect directly with an HDMI cable.

Thanks, that's what I thought but hoped there was a cable-free solution! I wonder if more recent OS's can mirror thru Airplay to the TV....
Yes. newer macOS versions such as Big Sur or Monterey can Airplay to an Airplay 2 capable TV.
