I can't enable Siri on a new MacBook

In System Preferences the box to Enable Ask Siri is grayed out, and a message below says "Siri is disabled by Screen Time". I have enabled and disabled, rebooted, searched the internet but nothing works. Is anyone else having this problem?

Hello epukelo,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. Upon review of your post, it seems that you are unable to use Siri on your new Mac, due to a Screen Time restriction. We can see why you’d want this taken care of, so let us help from here! Let’s start by reviewing the following article which may help: Turn off Screen Time on your Mac. This will explain how to disable Screen Time so you can use Siri or any other features you wish to use.

If you are unable to disable that feature or if you have follow up questions, please let us know so we can continue assisting. Take care!

Thanks for getting back to us about this, epukelo. We apologize that we didn't understand what you had enabled and disabled, but we can definitely look into this further with you. As the steps you took should have resolved this behavior, let’s continue by testing to see when this behavior occurs.

First, put your Mac into safe mode and test. Booting into safe mode will disable any startup and login items from automatically opening, which can help us to isolate the source of the issue further. When you do this, you’ll see some unusual behavior from the display; this is to be expected. Please follow the steps in this article: How to use safe mode on your Mac.

Next, let's see if this behavior persists in a second user account on your Mac. Please follow these steps to make a test account that can be deleted later: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac.

If the behavior is the same in both modes, please let us know. Have a good day.

Hello Brian,

As I mentioned in my message I know how to disable Screen Time, so the article you referred doesn't help. It doesn't matter what I do, if screen time is On or Off, the box to Enable Ask Siri is grayed out, and a message below says "Siri is disabled by Screen Time". This is a brand new MacBook Pro running Monterey 12.2 and it looks to me like this is a bug... and if not it's a very bad UX design.
