Hi,

Wired printing from an iPhone is not supported. Connect an AirPrint-enabled (About AirPrint - Apple Support) printer to the same Wi-Fi router as the iPhone. The iPhone would use a wireless connection. The printer can be wirelessly connected, or (if applicable) by Ethernet to one of the LAN ports of the router.

It may be possible to use some non-AirPrint Wi-Fi printers with an iPhone, but only if the printer manufacturer can provide a special iOS app.

Thank you for the information. The HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401n is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a model supporting the AirPrint technology. Since this is a network model with an Ethernet port, it should be possible to connect the printer to a LAN port of a Wi-Fi router. You should then be able to wirelessly print from the iPhone via this Wi-Fi router. The PC laptop would then not have to be involved.

If you do not have access to a normal/central Wi-Fi network at the office, or if the network is segmented in a way that makes it not suitable for this purpose, you could perhaps set up a mini-Wi-Fi network just at your workplace (if this would be allowed). This could be a small "travel router" (maybe something similar to a TP-Link TL-WR902AC). Alternatively, a spare "normal" home router could be used. The interesting section is the local network (LAN and WLAN), not the WAN.

A PC laptop cannot use AirPrint, but it should be possible to print from this computer (wirelessly or by Ethernet) via the network as well using Windows drivers.

You're welcome!

Which exact printer model is it?

For a USB printer, there may be a workaround, but it would require a Mac acting as a print server. If so, a special Mac app like Printopia could be used. Even a somewhat older Mac (Mac OS X 10.7 or higher) may be used for this. The Mac sharing the printer must be on the same network (Wi-Fi router) as the iPhone.

Depending on how the printer is connected today, and how the existing network is designed, there may be many variables to take into account. The printer must be on the same network as the iPhone. Bridge solutions may be needed, et cetera, et cetera. It would probably be wise to discuss the matter with your IT department.

BTW, Xerox (!) has a white paper Enabling Apple® AirPrint®with Your Xerox®AltaLink®Multifunction Printer (https://www.office.xerox.com/latest/XOGWP-18U.PDF). Parts of the general technical information about how AirPrint works, including details about Bonjour/mDNS, could possibly be of some interest also in this case.

Anyway, good luck!
