Stop receiving notifications on Apple Watch while using iPad

While I'm using the Discord app on my iPad, my Apple Watch sends me a new notification each time I receive a new Discord message.

When I'm using Discord on my iPhone, my Apple Watch does not send me a new notification each time I receive a new Discord message.

While I'm using Discord on any Apple device, I don't want to also receive Discord notifications on my Apple Watch. Is there a way that I can configure my iPad as the "active device" so that I won't receive the duplicate watch notifications?

Edit: I'm on iPadOS 15 even though it says iPadOS 14 below.
