Saw a prior thread, response referenced manipulating portrait orientation lock…this is not the issue!
Issue is that with the orientation unlocked, the screen only rotates left or right 90 degrees. Formerly able to rotate 180 degrees (upside down), which allows those of us who do not use mounts in the car to still use maps while the phone is charging (eg resting top down in a cup holder).

To confirm what ChrisJ4203 already said, to my knowledge there isn't (and never has been) that option on iPhones.

iPhones have never been able to rotate 180º. iPads can, but not iPhones. I just tried on my wife’s iPhone 8, and it only rotates 90º left and right.
I don't ever remember the iPhone rotating a full 180 degrees. I went back to an older phone I keep for checking older iOS, and I have an iPhone 7 on iOS 12.3.1 and it will not rotate 180 degrees either. I even specifically checked the Maps app since you mentioned that.
Appreciate the replies. As I said, I was reposting the question, so there are at least two of us out there who witnessed the capability. It wasnt a separate thing - on my Iphone 8 from whatever IOS it was running in 2017 thru 15.3 just this week when I upgraded to the Iphone 12, if the potrait orientation was unlocked, the screen could rotate 90 deg left/right AND thru to 180…didnt do anything different/extra to make that happen. Worked on maps, web browsers, etc.
Wishing now I hadnt wiped the phone and traded it in, would be able to show you I’m not making it up! Thanks for taking the time to tell me I’m nuts; the 8 was my first Iphone so I assumed this was something they all did, hence my using “fix”.
When will they "fix" it?
The word "fix" implies that it is broken or otherwise not working as intended... There is nothing to "fix". It's not broken.
