Where have my audio messages gone?

So I've changed the settings of my iMessage so that all my audio messages never expire on top of that I always save them just in case. However, I have been trying to go back to listen to some previous audios that I have and cannot find them. there are only blank voice clouds. Are they saved anywhere specifically I also have tried looking for them on my iCloud backups and they are not there.
