Troubleshooting Firmware Password:

Why the Lock:

You need to enter the firmware password to continue. You'll find that in the original packaging.

  1. Go Here: If your Mac doesn't start up all the way - Apple Support
  2. Scroll to: Lock icon
  3. Ask it reads: "If your Mac is using a firmware password, the lock icon appears when you try to start up from another disk or volume, such as an external drive or macOS Recovery. Enter the firmware password to continue."

Forgot the Firmware Password?

  1. Go Here: Set a firmware password on your Mac - Apple Support
  2. Scroll to: If you forgot your firmware password
  3. As it Reads: "If you can't remember your firmware password, schedule an in-person service appointment with an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Bring your Mac to the appointment, and bring your original receipt or invoice as proof of purchase."
