Just got a new iPad with the magic keyboard. Is it safe to close the iPad and have the keyboard and iPad close to each other for long periods of time? Or should I get a different case for when I travel with my iPad and just change to the magic keyboard when I get to my location?

I have the same setup as you. I have worked the with the Magic Keyboard and the iPad for about 8 months now. I have no other case for the iPad. I have traveled with it and most of the time my iPad is in closed position and is constantly near the keyboard. NO issues. Nothing to worry about.
