If you have previously installed Numbers (not Numbers '09 v2.3) from the Mac App Store, then launch the Mac App Store signed in with the same Apple ID that you used to previously install Numbers. Press and hold the option key while clicking in the Purchased tab of the Mac App Store.
Numbers will appear with an Update button. Click that, and you will receive an initial dialog informing you that you need to upgrade your operating system to get the current version (v11.2) of Numbers. Acknowledge that dialog without clicking Cancel. Another dialog may appear offering to install the last compatible version of Numbers for High Sierra. Allow that, and you will have Numbers v6.1.
