I have had problems with my iPhone and iPad trying to update the system thru the Finder while coveted to my iMac. When I updated via WiFi I had no problems. So I backup to my iMac but do all system and software installs via WiFi.

It appears that you've backed up your iPad to your Mac so I'd try this:

1 - shutdown the iPad

2 - reboot

3 - if the update doesn't restart then manually start the update again.
