For what country is this? HBO services are fragmented to various countries or regions, each with their own coverage and usage and device support.

On what model smart TV or what model TV-connected streaming device is this? Do you have the Apple TV box?

HBO Max (US) is not available as a Channel in the Apple TV app. HBO Max cannot be “connected” to the Apple TV app on third party streaming devices. HBO Max subscriptions with billing through Apple are valid for the HBO Max app on Apple devices, including the Apple TV box. For cross-platform support, subscribe with HBO directly, so that you’ll have a separate HBO account.
