app-specific password not working??

Hope someone can help. I'm not that tech savvy I'm afraid.

I have a @mac.com (me.com) email address and happily use it on my home Mac and iPad.

I also have an Android mobile and would like to access my emails on that.


As I understand it, in theory I should be able to set up an App-specific password and use this for my Android mail App (Gmail). It simply isn't working. When I try to set up the account in Gmail I'm getting the message 'Email security not guaranteed' with the option to connect without security, but this option returns the message 'Cannot connect to the server'.

I've also tried using the app 'Sync for iCloud' but get the message 'Setup could not finish / Cannot connect to the server'.

Anyone have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

I've tried using both the @mac and @me.com addresses.

I've tried using the new app specific password as well as the 16 character code that is generated.

None of the variations seem to work.

I have found a work-around. By accessing my iCloud account via the internet on my phone then saving the page as an icon on my home screen, but this isn't ideal as I feel I should be using an app other than the internet.


Any help or advice would nee much appreciated.
