This remote hardly ever works

This remote hardly ever works and is a pispoor replacement for the older remote app. There is no microphone feature and connectivity is always problematic. Many of the displayed features are useless. Volume is useless since it can not connect to volume control of tv or Sonos or any other audio system on the WiFi. Channel does nothing since the menu button is how you change between apps. Update now!

poor replacement for the older remote app.

The remote widget in Control Center does almost everything the Remote app did, and then some more.

There is no microphone feature

Yes there is. Use the standard Siri button for your device to activate it, when the widget is active. On newer iPhones, that would be the side button on the right. The start screen even shows that.

Text input fields will show an additional microphone icon for dictation.

Volume is useless since it can not connect to volume control of tv or Sonos or any other audio system on the WiFi.

Just like the former app, Volume Control through the software remote is limited to Bluetooth speakers and AirPlay speakers, and it may also support certain AV receivers that support Volume Control over HDMI-CEC.

Your iPhone or iPad will of course not send IR signals to your TV or Sonos, as the iPhone or iPad has no IR transmitter built-in, different from the physical remote.

Channel does nothing since the menu button is how you change between apps.

The new Channel Up and Down buttons are for TV provider apps that have chosen to support these buttons within their app. Similar for the Guide button top-center. I think Spectrum is one of those live TV providers that has an app with ordered in-app channels that can use this feature.

All of your responses sound defensive. Unfortunately, the features are not intuitive or I wouldn't be writing here.

  1. the limited connectivity. in comparison to the previous app - the built in remote app fails to connect to my apple tv more often than not making it useless. If it doesn't work for me, but does for you, congrats..but I am not a novice user and therefore assume others have the same connectivity issues (an issue that was NOT there in the previous app)
  2. microphone feature - it does not integrate with siri as you suggest. If I use Siri button on th side of the iphone - it takes me out of the app
  3. Sonos controls are bluetooth and includes volume control. I was not referring to IR capabilities. The current app does not allow me to control Sonos volume in my case and would assume it would also have difficulty controlling another AV receiver without switching to that AV unit from "choose a tv"
  4. if you think the remote has more features then the previous app - then maybe overcompensation for its failure in the simple features that were working well in the previous version.

try listening to feedback and helping to advocate for improvements and better field testing. I'm sure I'm not the only dissatisfied customer

We all help each other here Urquhart1244, right? If so, thanks for hearing my issues with the new remote app from the utility screen and attempting to address them. Lets hope Apple also checks out these forums and listens to feedback and addresses issues to make user experience a good one. I'll reiterate again, the remote app hardly ever works and when it does, it is not as intuitive nor as useful as the older, more simpler version.
