Please understand my question. Why can’t I see my password? Obviously I know I can update it. Why do I have to update it if I saved it? And I’ve obviously saved it because I can log in and it fills in my information. You don’t know why I need it but I need it. And I cannot access it and I’m frustrated that I don’t get an answer to my question. WHERE IS THE PASSWORD??

Yes, thank you I do understand that. But the one I need is not there. I’m so frustrated. It’s a new banking app and I do see the website but it is my old password. It just doesn’t make sense that I can use my thumbprint to log in using my new password but I can’t see the new password in my settings—password. I do appreciate all the information but I’m still stuck unfortunately.
That makes sense BUT my apps that I have saved passwords are not in the passwords list.
It’s. Not. There.
The app would not be in the list; the web URL that the app is front-ending would be in the list. For example, I have the NY Times Crossword app. The app is not in the password list, but my password for nytimes.com is, and keychain fills in the correct password when I log in to the app.
Sorry, that was NOT helpful. I thought the helpful was a drop down so I could choose NOT helpful. In my post I mentioned settings and passwords and that I could only see website passwords. Let me expand…I do not see the language “websites and apps” anywhere as a choice. My iCloud Keychain is toggled to “on”.
Go to Settings/Passwords. Tap on any entry and it will display the password for that entry.

Is the iPhone still running iOS 13?
If so, select Passwords & Accounts, then tap Website & App Passwords.
iOS 14 and newer -> Tap Settings, then select Passwords.

Website and app passwords are interchangeable. An app password is simply the password for the website that the app connects to behind the scenes.
You can edit the password. If you see the website just change the password in Settings/Passwords to the new password. Or, if you enter the new password into the website or the app you should be prompted to update the saved password.

Are you logged in to your Apple ID on your phone, and do you have 2 factor authentication for your Apple ID?
I see all of my 300+ accounts in settings/Passwords, and if I click on any one I see the password in plain text.
Go to Settings -> Passwords.
Or in Keychain, see this Apple article: Set up iCloud Keychain
