Can’t delete previous AirTag owner

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, you have issues with an AirTag being associated with the previous owner.


You came from the best resource for your issue: If an item or device is connected to another Apple ID


As explained there, you'll need to contact the previous owner of the AirTag and have them follow the steps outlined within that resource.


If needed, you may then need to reset the AirTag: How to reset your AirTag


Only the previous owner can remove the AirTag from their account. You'll want to get in touch with them to work through those steps, so you can then set it up and associate it with your account.

Now nothing!


You are the one who postulated above that you could send a message to the original owner if you could find the serial number. That is, in fact, incorrect.


The correct path starts with this from destiny241 above:

It sounds like you've had some struggles contacting the original owner of this AirTag.


You are on the right path. You'd want to get in touch with the previous owner, then instruct them to use the steps above to remove the AirTag from their account.


With that said, was this purchased second hand through a Reseller or another method? We ask to make sure there isn't a return/exchange policy that might help you out.
