Was working before but not anymore. Last update of Apple TV OS didn't change anything. Sad and infuriating.

Ok. So at that point I think the best bet is to consult with Apple support to figure out what is going on.
The last model released was the 2nd model of the 4K, there is no 4k 3rd gen. What firmware version is currently running on your unit?
The issue is limited to the PS4 controller refusing to be paired with the Apple TV unit. The Apple TV has no problems pairing with AirPods and AirPods Pro and the unit remote. I do not have issues with any other Bluetooth devices. They all connect easily with the Apple TV. Not the case with the PS4 controller which immediately disconnects.
You are right about the model. Now running on tvOS 15.3 (19K547). It refuses to pair with a PS4 controller.
