I had this same issue. I traveled yesterday, and when I returned home my MacBook Pro (M1), running MacOS 12.2.1 won't update the time zone automatically despite showing that as the active setting in Date and Time. I unchecked and rechecked it and tried to choose a different server, but the clock still shows Central time, when I'm back in Eastern.


It seems an update at some point changed the default setting for time zones, as "Set time zone automatically ..." was disabled on my computer, which is only a couple months old. My previous MacBook was set to update automatically.
