Air Print Not Working Monterey 12.2.1

What is Bonjour Multifunction? Is that the issue with air printing ?

Never had an issue until now. I have IOS 15.2.1on my phone and it won't AirPrint either.

I have had the same HP Envy 7855 for 2 years, drivers are up to date....

Thoughts?

Hi,

The HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-In-One Printer is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a model with support for the driverless AirPrint technology, so you should be able to use it with macOS (Monterey) without having to install additional drivers.

The printer, computer and iPhone shall be connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router).

If there is a suspected BonJour/AirPrint problem, it may be wise to try the following procedure first (assuming that all settings have been checked):

Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the Mac computer, the iPhone, and all other devices/computers. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the Mac and the iPhone. Finally, power on all other devices/computers.

The idea is to ensure that the router has updated information about all connected devices (and vice versa).

By the way, regarding Bonjour and AirPrint, Xerox (!) has a white paper Enabling Apple® AirPrint®with Your Xerox®AltaLink®Multifunction Printer (https://www.office.xerox.com/latest/XOGWP-18U.PDF). Parts of the general technical information in this document could perhaps be of interest to you.

Hi Jackve6,

Would it be correct to assume that you have tried the usual things like resetting the printing system (and re-adding the printer), and checking whether printer driver/firmware updates have been made available?

Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem – Apple Support (UK)

Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac – Apple Support (UK)

An AirPrint-enabled printer (such as the SureColor P900) can be used without having to install drivers, provided that the printer and the computer are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router). This can be either a wireless connection, or a wired via Ethernet to one of the LAN ports of the router. What happens if you would carry out a test with AirPrint?

About AirPrint - Apple Support

Software/drivers from the printer manufacturer may or may not add functionality, and would be needed for a USB connection.

There seems to be much wrong in 12.2.1 related to printing. There was a problem with some of the last updates to Big Sur. When I went to Monterey everything went back to normal and I was thrilled. That was in early January, but now it looks like almost the same problem again. In my case I print with an Epson P900 which worked perfectly with Monterey until 12.2.1 arrived.

Coincidently, my scanning software, Vuescan, stopped working at the same time. I can't get it to start properly. It looks to me like there is some relationship with these two problems. I am very disappointed with Apple.

Both these problems have showed up on my 2015 iMac and my 2018 MacBook (the little one), so it's not computer unique.

I have no choice but to roll back to a version that will work. I do hope that Apple takes care of all these print issues. I have a feeling they're all related.

I'm going to get into a separate thread that deals with this problem I have. My situation doesn't seem to be unique.

I don't use AirPrint. I'm connected with USB.

Thanks for your info. Jan.

I've tried all or most possibilities so far, including clearing and reloading the printer drivers from Epson, and uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop. All to no avail.

I only use a direct USB connection for my important printers, so I bypass any challenges with AirPrint.

The thing that is clear is. that this problem is exactly what happened when Big Sur 11.6.1 was released. That didn't just affect me, but rather a whole community of Mac users who printed with ICC Profiles.

I've now come across a printer company who have issued a short video recommending that a) you don't update to 12.2.1 and if you have, back track to 12.2 until this gets sorted out.

Back in December when I discovered that those with Monterey had no problem, I was able to move to Monterey. It immediately returned all my printing processes and ICC availability to normal. This time, I have no choice but to go back one version. I can't wait for Apple to fix things because I have prints that I need to deliver. I'll be working this out with Apple Support later today.

When I look through the Mac filing system to Macintosh HD/Library/Printers, I can find the Epson files and all the proper Epson Paper ICC profile, so I know it has been set up properly by the Epson drivers. It is worth noting that you can't find the Epson ICC Profiles in the place where all the 3rd party profiles are located. Epson don't offer those as standalone files, at least to my knowledge. The Epson ICC Profiles come with the Epson printer drivers and get loaded in this location with the other printer software. Nevertheless, it has worked properly for me for 11 years, so I guess Epson worked it out with Apple and Adobe at some point.

I will say this for coming across such problems, it sure helps me to learn more and more about my computer and applications.

Regards,

Jack
