Apple Watch App Store prompt to set up a passcode

Hi,

Whenever I try to download an app within the Apple Watch App Store I get the following message:

“A password is required to download and buy apps”

and then a button to ‘turn passcode on’.

My passcode is already enabled so the button merely sends me to the settings we’re it’s already toggled on.

I’ve reset the password and also tried using the non-simple passcodes too to no avail.

still haven’t been able to download an app from the Watch directly yet, which is frustrating.

Bigpad_uk - provided this solution for my ‘hold near reader’ not appearing for Apple Pay:

“Try going into your assistive touch settings on your watch app on your phone and turn off confirm with assistive touch. Restart both phone and watch and then double check that confirm with assistive touch is still off. Worked for me.”

this resolved the issue for the Apple Pay issue I had and also the App Store issue.

Not sure if it was simply turning both my phone and watch on and off that resolved it or the assistive touch bit too. But worth trying out and seeing if it resolves your issue too, you’re having the same problem.

I suspect The App Store is not asking for your watch PASSCODE, but instead wants your Apple ID PASSWORD. Perhaps this article will help:

when I click Turn Passcode on, it takes me to this:

where my passcode is already on.

There’s no option or prompt to sign into Apple ID.

And when I scroll to the bottom within the AppStore app I can see my Apple ID account already there and apps are syncing fine from my phone to watch too.

on the watch app on the phone it seems like I am signed in - my email is listed under the Apple ID - however no button to add or remove.

I’m still a bit confused or I’m missing something very obvious.
