Walking sticks VO2 max

I started using walking sticks to help my balance . I fell once or twice walking as I am 77. My VO2 hadn’t registered since 2019 but on Dec 31 it only showed 15?which is still low for my age. My previous walks were over 30. I read that having something in your hands where the watch is can affect the reading. Could the walking stick affect this. I have been kept up with other workouts so I was surprised.
