Need to update OS. What is current OS & iTunes version that should work?

Assuming you have a MacBook5,1 the latest version of OS X you can run is El Capitan 10.11.6

Hi,
Depending on exactly which "MacBook" you have (there are three different 2008 MacBooks, two different 2008 MacBook Airs, and four different 2008 MacBook Pros) you may be able to run as high as 10.11.6. Once the OS is updated, run Software Update and it will update anything else which needs to be updated.
