Pages/Numbers Auto Save Issue

Forgive my ignorance for this hopefully simple issue.

A few weeks ago I bought a newer MacBook to replace my older MacBook I had been using for near 10 years. I brought files I had saved on the older MacBook's hard drive via airdrop. I save most of my documents on google drive, and so I simply linked the google drive to my new MacBook.

I have noticed on a couple documents (pages and numbers documents) that are saved on google drive, that as I am editing a dialogue box will pop up (see attached). I have tried 'save anyway' and 'save as'. I have tried to create a new document and copy/paste the info over, and I still get them, I assume when the document attempts to auto-save.

I"m not sure what to do about this, any help is appreciated.

I think this is related to saving/editing documents directly on Google Drive.

Google Drive (like most cloud storage systems) are not geared for live editing of documents due to the way they save data, store snapshots/backups, etc.

Does the same message occur if you save the file locally and side load it into Google Drive? I suspect not.

It works with some cloud services (such as iCloud and DropBox) because they use a slightly different system where the data is stored locally and transparently synced to the cloud, which is a little different from trying to edit the document directly.

My apologies - in this context I mean not trying to edit the document directly from your Google Cloud drive.

Instead, copy it locally to your machine, make the edits, then copy the edited version back to Google Cloud - in this case, you copy the file over to the 'side' to make the edits', then copy it back.

Clearly not your preferred way of working, but I'm just trying to eliminate the variables.
