Finder's reported "created" date is earlier than the actual creation date of the image. How is that possible?

Another post indicated that the "Created" date in finder reflects the date that the file was created, not the date that the photo was taken.


That's great until you find a file which has embedded exif data that happens AFTER the supposed file creation date. How is it that Finder could report a file creation date that pre-dates the EXIF data attached to the file?


In this particular case, the file is a *.psd file from Photoshop which I created, from scratch, on December 31st, 2014. Finder reports that it was created on May 4th, 2013, which is impossible. I was on my honeymoon on that day and I didn't create anything digital.
