iphone 15.3.1 how to block a phone number

15.3.1 seems to have changed/deleted the method of adding a number to the blocked list.

I go Settings > Phone > Blocked Contacts > Scroll down to Add New...

Now it will only block a number in the contacts list. This never happened before; it was possible to block a number straight away at the Blocked Contacts level. NOw I have to put them in my contacts list???

This is ridiculous.

Please advise.

If some idiot machine blind calls me saying I owe Ebay $300 I do not want him in my contacts list.

Hello Bob593251,

Being able to block numbers, contacts, and emails is a great feature of the iPhone, and you’ve come to a wonderful place for help! You can block phone numbers directly from the Recents list in the Phone app. This can be done by tapping the (i) icon to the right of the screen, followed by Block This Caller. This information can also be found in the following article.

Block phone numbers, contacts, and emails on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

There is also a great feature that allows for the detection and automatic blocking of spam phone calls. That feature is called Silence Unknown Callers and is outlined in the article below.
