Applying new score staff in Logic 8

I've attempted to follow the manual - but, really, its so dense it's hard to find the right topic. I have to use the PDF manual, as I work abroad and the printed ones are excess baggage. But a search for 'staff styles' brings up everything with each word, and Youtube hasn't anything. Help!

Here's what I've done.

1. I've selected a piano part (region)
2. Opened up the score editor
3. Gone to Layout>Staff Styles, then selected piano

but it doesn't change the score - I'm stuck with the bass clef only.

In addition, I've selected 'piano' in the score menu in the track's Inspector. Still no luck.

• with the region selected, open the score editor
• look in the upper LH corner of the window, in the Inspector, and look for the "style" parameter
• change the style parameter to what you need it to be

If you need to change clefs mid-region, you have two choices:

a) (most typical scenario) -- drag a clef from the partbox into the staff

= or =

b) cut the region at the point where you need the clefs to change, duplicate the staff style you're currently using and re-name it; change the clefs to what you want them to be +in the staff style editor+; now select that new staff style from the style menu.

Depends on the content of your regions and which staff style you've selected.

If you select "Piano", it contains a split point parameter. Adjusting it will determine which notes appear in the bass and treble.

But if a fixed split point doesn't work for your music, you then have to assign the bass notes to a different MIDI channel. For example, if you assign all of the bass notes to ch. 3 and leave the treble notes on ch. 1, you can assign the "Piano 1/3" staff style and the score will look correct.

There are many ways to achieve this separation. One way is to use the voice separation tool. Here, you'd first select Piano 1/3, and then use the tool to separate RH and LH.

I do things differently tho... I look at the score in the regular "Piano" staff style and manually select the bass notes. Then I use the key command "Event Channel + 1" and I it 2x. Then I apply the Piano 1/3 staff style to the part.

And if any notes appear on the wrong staff (e.g., RH in the bass), I use the "Event Channel -1" k/command and hit it 2x.

I have a tip for you for at least this part of your problem: You should type it like this: "staff styles" now it will only search for the exact combination. The "" trick also works in Google. Unfortunately I know little about working with the Score editor, but plenty others here do.
