Passcode Expiration Time?

This has triggered additional questions for Apple since the OS responds to the MDM profile. The MDM provider pushed a passcode profile set for 60 day max using Apple's XML "maxPinageInDays" per Apple Developer Documentation on 12/13/21 and then later that same day the user was re-assigned to a different profile set for 90 day max using the same XML with the updated 90 day range. But the end user got prompted 60 days later on 2/13/22 to update the passcode instead of the 90 days. We need to advise the customer why that happened and the MDM provider has stated that the Apple OS manages that.

So when applying the "maxPINAgeInDays" key to a device that already has a passcode set, will the device use the profile installation date or the date the passcode was set on the device?
