I’ve had an Apple Watch for the past 4 years starting with series one in 2016 and upgraded twice now owning series 5. Every watch I’ve ever owned was worn with the stock black silicone/rubber band. This last iteration something changed. When I would take off my watch at the end of the night it smelled horrible, like stinky and I couldn’t figure out why. In the past 4 years I’ve worn my watch through training for multiple marathons, strength and other sweaty strenuous activity and it never stunk. I have since discovered that the small is actually very localized and it is coming directly from the underside of the metal peg (the metallic disc) that sits directly on the spot of the underside of your wrist where one might take their pulse. As an experiment, I covered this small meta piece with a water proof bandaid and for the last 2 days when I have removed my watch, not surprisingly there has been no odor. So here’s the deal. You’re not a stinky sweaty pig like you think you are. Your skin (and mine) is having some sort of reaction with this metal that makes it stink not unlike the smell of pierced ears with metal studs. I feel like I should not be required to continue to place a bandaid piece on my watch band every few days. I feel like Apple should remedy the situation by simply fully encasing the prong / peg inside the silicon band and thereby removing its contact point from the skin. Please Apple, will you do this and then send me the first band so I can stop using up all my bandaids on my watch like a toddler needlessly bandaging up her baby doll…
Have found that, yes, there is something about the metal disk, but…after washing in soapy water, noticed that there is a deposit starting at the metal disk referred to, and radiating out across the band. This does not get removed by regular washing. Surprised that I could scrape this ‘cheesey’ deposit off with my fingernails on both halves of the band, and then thoroughly washed again. So far, no smell after 24 hours…may resort to hydrogen peroxide (not alcohol) to further sterilize…
