What is com.apple.WebKit.WebContent.xpc and why is it slowing down my iMac?

"com.apple.WebKit.WebContent.xpc" uses up RAM and freezes my computer as soon as I open the Safari browser. I currently use Memory Medic to recover RAM, but Safari uses it up as soon as it's launched. Please help.

com.apple.WebKit.WebContent.xpc is part of the OS and involved with Security of the Internet.

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

Whew, they've changed pastebin & made it harder, but after pasting in, click Create new paste button, then Embed button, then copy the URL...

The important part of the above is...

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...

Welcome, jiconnor, to Apple Support Communities!

Using “anti-virus”, “cleaning”, “optimizing”, etc. programs, on a Mac, is, generally speaking, a very bad idea.

Perform the EtreCheck that BDAqua has recommended.

However, I expect that we’ll find, at a minimum, that “Memory Medic” is causing more trouble than just about anything.

Note: with modern Virtual Memory (VM) systems, such as what Mac OS uses, the Operating System (OS) will quickly use all your available Random Access Memory (RAM)—unless you simply have significantly more RAM, on your computer, than what your software needs. This is simply the most efficient use of your computer’s resources.

I wish I could accept your explanation of my problem with "com.apple.WebKit.WebContent.xpc," but I downloaded Memory Medic in hope of solving the problem. My iMac freezes after five to ten minutes of Safari opening. I'll continue to review problems other Mac users are having with this issue in hope of finding a solution. Thanks.

So. You were having the “freezing”, of your iMac, prior to installing “Memory Medic”?

I don’t see that you have provided the file from running EtreCheck, as BDAqua has recommended.

Is there a problem doing so?
