Other than the trouble you are having choosing your search engine, what makes you believe that Apple has forced ecosia on people. Have others reported that this is the only search engine they can use? It certainly is not that way on my iPhone or iPad. I have Google selected and it works just fine. I can see ecosia on the list, but it certainly is not selected as the default selection. I would do as stedman1 has recommended and clear your History and Website data in Safari to clear any possible cookie that may be preventing you from changing your search engine selection. Clearing History and Website data is not an extreme response, but a normal action that should be done periodically to clear that data.

More precisely, have selected Google several times but this makes no difference. Ecosia remains.

I did choose it as a possibly more effective broker than Duck Duck but it is hardly an improvement. Searches are less effective on my iPhone now than on my Mac using Google. I regret very much having switched and am very annoyed - and a bit suspicious as to why Apple has forced Ecosia onto users.
