Animoji/Memeoji issue in M1Pro 14 MBP

I have recently shifted from an Intel-based MBP 15 to an M1 Pro 14in MBP.

All my things have come except my system-wide ability to use Memeoji in 'Users and Groups' to set as a Login screen icon.

Or to use inside of messages app as 'Memeoji Stickers'.

Earlier on my MBP 15in intel, I could use 'Memoji Stickers'. I have an iPhone 12, and it works fine.

I have tried to log out my apple id and log in again. I also tried to create a new memeoji inside my iPhone none of this has worked. I am adding images for your reference.

Please help I know this is not a big thing but I would need help

Hello Rohit_D,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We see you’re having trouble using Memojis in messages and as your login picture on your Mac. We’re happy to help.

To start, make sure you’re following the steps in these guides:

Create your Memoji in Messages on Mac - Apple Support

Change a user’s login picture on Mac - Apple Support

If that doesn’t help, test to see if the issue persists in safe mode and a different user account:

Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Let us know the results.

Take care.

How did you do that "shift"? Try setting up a new user account on your machine using only iCloud. Log out of that old account entirely and then log into the new account. Does it act any different?

You aren't showing any Memoji content at all. You should have not just your own Memoji, but all of the system ones as well.

That's the reason for my interest in your "shift". There is an infinite number of ways to scrambled a macOS installation using many different 3rd party system modifications. Have you installed or migrated one or more of those? No way to tell from here.

The best way to setup a new Mac these days is to use only iCloud. Time Machine backups are great for backups, but they are not a good idea for migrating old systems.

Hello,

Thank you for your kind reply. I did use Time Machine Backup to migrate my system. I am not sure about 3rd party system modifications? Could you kindly share an example so I can confirm?

I could use iCloud for my apple-related data. However, files of third-party apps would not transfer. hence, I didn't choose it. Happy to reset my system even today if there were a solution.

The first thing to test would be to create a new user account and try it there. If even that doesn't work, then you will have to completely erase the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

But if this is the only thing you are missing, it might be worthwhile to just live with it.

Hi bailier,

Thank you for taking the time to reply!! I really appreciate your time and help. I tried all the steps mentioned in your solution. Unfortunately, it did not end up working.

It lets me select Animoji when my apple id is logged out. However, logging back in creates the same issue.

I have tried to 'Erase all Content and Settings' from my laptop to solve the issue. When I managed to log back re-install macOS and start up the laptop with my apple id. It let me choose the Animoji as well as the memeoji associated with my account as my user picture.

However, when I transferred my data using Migration Assistant it defaulted to the first error.

hope this clarifies you on how my resoution process has gone so far.

I guess you’ve found the cause then. You will have to pick between Memoji or third-party apps. Something about the data with those third party apps is breaking the connection to iCloud. Personally, I recommend keeping the Memoji and manually re-installing only the 3rd party apps that you absolutely can’t live without. I think that there are actually very few 3rd party apps that meet that standard. Most apps are junk that cause problems like this. You are better off without them.
